JAMMU, July 31, 2025 : To ensure the safety of aircraft operations and prevent bird-hit incidents, District Magistrate Jammu Sachin Kumar Vaishya has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, restricting unregulated waste disposal near Jammu Airport.
The order follows serious concerns raised by the Indian Air Force and Airport Authority of India over increased bird activity caused by indiscriminate dumping of garbage and food waste in nearby areas.
Effective immediately, the order prohibits the dumping of garbage, edible waste, or refuse within a one-kilometre radius of the airport — including Belicharana, Satwari, Miran Sahib, and Phallian Mandal.

Commercial establishments, eateries, vendors, and residents must ensure safe and scientific disposal of all waste and avoid leaving food scraps in the open.

Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Cantonment Board, and Jammu Development Authority (JDA) are directed to:

Remove existing open garbage dumps near the airport

Install signage prohibiting waste dumping in public spaces, drains, and water bodies

Initiate daily door-to-door segregated waste collection

Devise a time-bound scientific waste management plan

Monitoring and Enforcement:

Block Development Officers of Satwari, Miran Sahib, and Phallian Mandal will conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance.

All agencies must submit weekly action-taken reports to the DM office.

Strict legal action will be taken against violators.
The order will remain in force until further notice.
