JAMMU, January 29, 2026 : Jammu is set to host the YSS–JKSC Football and Cricket Premier Leagues 2025–26 from early next month, marking a major push to revive grassroots and competitive sports in the region, officials said on Thursday.
The leagues are a joint initiative of the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) and the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC), aimed at providing a professional platform for local talent and restoring Jammu’s sporting legacy. Matches will be held at the Synthetic Turf Football Ground, Parade, and the historic M A Stadium.
A JKSC spokesperson said the twin leagues are designed to significantly contribute to the revival of professional football and cricket tournaments in Jammu. To ensure high standards, organising committees and sub-committees comprising former national and international players, referees, umpires, coaches, club owners and JKSC officials have been constituted.
The football league will run alongside the cricket tournament, with 41 football matches and 39 cricket games planned. Final formats and fixtures will be announced after participating teams are finalised. The return of cricket to M A Stadium is being seen as a symbolic revival of one of Jammu’s most cherished sporting venues.
Participation will primarily focus on local athletes. Only permanent residents of the Jammu Division will be eligible to compete. However, in cricket, each team will be allowed a maximum of five out-station players, ensuring broader exposure while prioritising regional talent.
To enhance visibility and fan engagement, the organisers will host grand opening and closing ceremonies, conduct matches under floodlights, and live-stream games on social media platforms. Officiating duties will be handled by AIFF-accredited referees for football and BCCI-certified umpires for cricket.
Officials expressed confidence that large crowds would return to the stadiums, adding that the leagues would serve as a vital launchpad for young sportspersons from Jammu to showcase their skills and aim for national and international recognition.
