Jammu, February 27, 2026 : In a significant action against illegal mineral extraction, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted joint surprise inspections over two consecutive days at multiple stone crusher units in Udhampur district and Reasi district.
The crackdown was initiated following complaints alleging large-scale illegal mining activities in parts of the Jammu division. Preliminary inputs suggested a possible nexus between certain mineral leaseholders and officials of the Mining and Ecology Departments, allegedly enabling unlawful extraction to continue unchecked.
Seizures and Forged Transit Passes Recovered
ACB teams, led by gazetted officers, carried out coordinated inspections at several sites across both districts. During the raids, officials seized electronic gadgets, key documents and records considered crucial to the investigation.
Notably, the sleuths recovered several allegedly forged ‘Form-A’ transit passes — documents mandatory for the lawful transportation of minerals. These forged passes are suspected to have been used to facilitate unauthorized mineral movement.
Violations and Environmental Impact
According to officials, all inspected stone crusher units were found prima facie involved in illegal mining operations and functioning in violation of prescribed norms and conditions. Authorities stated that such activities have resulted in significant environmental degradation in the affected areas.
The ACB has launched a detailed investigation to scrutinize the seized records and determine the role of individuals involved. The Bureau reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against corruption and the illegal exploitation of natural resources.
Further legal proceedings are expected based on the findings of the ongoing probe.
