Jammu, March 22, 2026 : In a significant step towards tech-driven governance, the Jammu and Kashmir government has initiated the integration of Artificial Intelligence into investigative operations of the Anti-Corruption Bureau by constituting a Technical Appraisal Committee (TAC) to evaluate the proposal.

The General Administration Department (GAD) has formally sanctioned the committee for the project titled “Adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Investigative Operations in the ACB,” in accordance with provisions laid down under S.O. 227 issued by the Finance Department.

The TAC will examine the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and assess the proposal on multiple fronts, including technical feasibility, financial viability, legal compliance, and operational efficiency. The committee has been tasked with submitting its recommendations to the Information Technology Department within 45 days.

The panel comprises key experts and officials, including the Chief Executive Officer of JaKeGA as Chairperson, the State Informatics Officer of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), and noted academicians such as Prof Majid Zaman from the University of Kashmir, Dr Shabir Ahmed Sofi from National Institute of Technology Srinagar, and Dr Mrinmoy Bhattacharjee from Indian Institute of Technology Jammu. The Under Secretary of the Information Technology Department will serve as Member Secretary, while AIG (Administration), ACB Headquarters, will function as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC).

According to the official order, the committee will thoroughly review the project’s objectives, scope, timelines, and deliverables. It will also scrutinize the proposed technical architecture, ensuring standards related to scalability, interoperability, security, and sustainability are met. Additionally, alignment with government policies and administrative priorities will be a key focus area.

Officials believe that the adoption of AI could significantly strengthen the investigative capabilities of the Anti-Corruption Bureau by enabling advanced data analysis, identifying financial irregularities, and improving the efficiency of corruption tracking mechanisms.

The initiative is being seen as a major leap towards modernizing governance in Jammu and Kashmir, potentially setting a benchmark for technology-driven anti-corruption frameworks in the region.
