SRINAGAR, July 25, 2025 : A Jammu and Kashmir Police head constable was injured on Friday after his service rifle accidentally discharged while being cleaned at the residence of former MLA Mohammad Ashraf in Srinagar, officials said.
The injured cop, identified as Head Constable Mehraj-ud-Din, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the incident, which occurred in the Pantha Chowk area.
Police said Mehraj was cleaning his weapon when it accidentally went off. He was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.
