Addressing the felicitation ceremony of the Jammu Marathon at MA Stadium, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the long-cherished dreams and aspirations of the people are steadily becoming a reality. He noted that Jammu and Kashmir has emerged as a vibrant destination, gaining global recognition not just for its natural beauty but also for hosting international events.
Recalling the conception of the Kashmir Marathon during a Government of India meeting in December 2023, LG Sinha said the vision extended beyond organizing a race—it aimed to present a “new Jammu and Kashmir” on the global sporting map. He added that such initiatives have allowed participants to witness firsthand the profound transformation taking place across the region.
The maiden international half marathon held in Jammu, organized by the J&K Tourism Department, featured 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km race categories and saw participation from over 3,000 runners, including athletes from across India and abroad. The large turnout reflected the growing appeal of Jammu and Kashmir as a safe and attractive destination for global sporting events.
LG Sinha underscored that the Union Territory is setting new benchmarks in development, driven by the determination and resilience of its people. He highlighted that alongside tourism, a sporting revolution is taking shape, aligned with the broader vision of the Fit India movement.
Describing the Jammu Marathon as a historic milestone, he said the event symbolizes the transformation witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir since 2019. With improved peace, stability, and infrastructure, the region is now capable of hosting world-class events. He stressed that Jammu has firmly positioned itself on the global running map, and such events are expected to significantly boost tourism, trade, and local businesses.
The Lieutenant Governor further remarked that Jammu and Kashmir’s journey mirrors the essence of a marathon—progressing steadily, one step at a time. He pointed out that the region has evolved into a hub of peace and prosperity, successfully hosting major international events, including G20 meetings and cricket tournaments—developments that were once unimaginable.
Inviting tourists from across the globe, LG Sinha encouraged people to visit Jammu and Kashmir and experience its transformation firsthand, assuring that the region now offers a peaceful, secure, and welcoming environment for visitors and participants alike.
Notable personalities, including actors Milind Soman and Gul Panag, along with sportspersons, prominent citizens, and a large number of youth, attended the event, adding to its significance and enthusiasm.
