Srinagar, November 19, 2025 : As temperatures continue to dip across the Kashmir Valley, the Education Department has announced that winter vacations for students from Nursery to Middle classes will begin in the first week of December.
Education Minister Sakina Itoo confirmed the decision, stating that the move follows a detailed assessment of the prevailing weather conditions and feedback from educational institutions across Kashmir.
“We reviewed the current cold wave situation and held consultations with schools. Based on this, winter vacations for Nursery to Middle classes will commence from the first week of December,” the minister told reporters.
Responding to concerns raised by parents and school administrations regarding academic schedules, textbooks, and pending coursework, Itoo said the department has already issued the necessary guidelines.
“The department is continuously monitoring the academic calendar. We have issued clear instructions to ensure that the learning process faces minimal disruption despite the harsh weather,” she said.
The announcement has been welcomed by parents and teachers, many of whom had expressed apprehensions about young children attending classes in freezing temperatures. The early break, they say, will help safeguard the health and well-being of students during the coldest months of the winter season.
The decision also aligns with the broader winter-readiness strategy of the administration, prioritising student safety while balancing academic preparedness.
