KULGAM, August 3, 2025 : The anti-terror operation in the Akhal forest area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district entered its third day on Sunday, with intermittent firing continuing between security forces and holed-up militants.
Officials said the encounter, which began on Friday following a cordon and search operation based on specific intelligence inputs, has intensified as security forces tighten the perimeter and deploy advanced surveillance tools, including drones, to locate the remaining militants.
Two terrorists have been killed so far. The first exchange of fire took place on Friday evening, after which the operation was briefly paused overnight. It resumed on Saturday morning, resulting in the deaths of the two militants. Their identities and affiliations are yet to be confirmed.
The area remains under heavy security presence, and the operation is ongoing.
