Poonch, September 9, 2025 : Over 30 structures, including residential houses, two government schools, a mosque, and a graveyard, have been damaged in Kalaban village of Mendhar, Poonch district, due to land sinking caused by continuous heavy rains over the past month.
The phenomenon has created panic among villagers, prompting many to shift to safer locations.
“Dozens more houses are at risk of developing cracks and collapsing,” said Sub-Divisional Magistrate Imran Rashid Kataria.
Authorities are actively monitoring the situation and prioritizing relocation of affected families, while efforts continue to provide alternative accommodation.
The land continues to sink, and safety of residents remains the foremost concern.
