Srinagar, October 27, 2025 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday announced that the Jammu and Kashmir government will allot five marlas of land to landless people affected by recent floods across the Union Territory. He said the official paperwork for the allotment is currently under process.
Responding to a question in the Assembly by BJP MLA from Jammu North, Sham Lal Sharma, about whether a new rehabilitation policy had been framed for flood victims, the Chief Minister clarified that no fresh policy has been introduced. “Landless people affected by the floods will be given five marlas of land on lease wherever land is available. The documentary process is underway,” he said.
The Chief Minister also rebuffed allegations of regional bias in relief efforts, asserting that his government does not engage in “regional politics.”
Abdullah informed the House that a Central team, deputed by the Union Government, had completed a comprehensive flood damage assessment across the UT. “The team conducted its assessment and returned. The Union Home Minister also visited. Our findings show that Jammu region faced greater losses than Kashmir. A detailed report has been prepared and submitted to the Centre. Once the funds are released, they will be disbursed accordingly,” he said.
The announcement comes as a significant relief measure for families displaced or rendered homeless by the floods, reflecting the government’s commitment to equitable rehabilitation and support across all affected areas.
