JAMMU, November 4, 2025 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday inaugurated the annual 10-day Jhiri Mela at Marh, near Jammu, and paid tributes to Baba Jittoo and Bua Kouri, revered symbols of sacrifice and equality.
The Jhiri Mela, attracting 10–12 lakh devotees annually from Jammu, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana, commemorates Baba Jittoo’s self-sacrifice against feudal oppression over 500 years ago.
Addressing the gathering, LG Sinha urged people to follow Baba Jittoo’s ideals of selfless service, equality, and justice, saying,
“Together, we can build a strong, secure, prosperous, and self-reliant Jammu and Kashmir.”
He also dedicated a pilgrim community hall, four modular bus stops, and laid the foundation stone for the first indoor sports complex at Marh under CSR initiatives.
Organised jointly by the Directorate of Tourism and district administration, the fair — running from November 4 to 13 — is supported by departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, and JMC, ensuring sanitation, health, and power facilities.
Security has been tightened with deployment of police and paramilitary forces, officials said.
