Jammu, February 16, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday ordered the reopening of 14 tourist destinations across the Union Territory that were shut following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam in April last year.

Nearly 50 tourist spots were closed by the administration after terrorists struck the Baisaran meadow on April 22, 2025, an attack that claimed 26 lives, most of them tourists, triggering widespread security concerns.

Following a detailed review of the ground situation, the LG’s office announced the decision on X.
“After a thorough security review and discussions, I have ordered the reopening of more tourist spots in the Kashmir and Jammu divisions which were temporarily closed as a precautionary measure,” the statement said.

With this latest decision, the total number of reopened tourist locations has risen to 26. Earlier, on September 26, the LG had approved the reopening of 12 destinations.

Tourist Spots Reopened in Kashmir Division

The following 11 locations have been ordered to reopen with immediate effect:

  • Yousmarg

  • Doodhpathri

  • Dandipora Park (Kokernag)

  • Peer Ki Gali

  • Dubjan

  • Padpawan

  • Astanpora

  • Tulip Garden

  • Thajwas Glacier

  • Hung Park

  • Wullar Lake and Watlab

Tourist Spots Reopened in Jammu Division

Three destinations in the Jammu region have also been reopened:

  • Devi Pindi (Reasi)

  • Mahu Mangat (Ramban)

  • Mughal Maidan (Kishtwar)

Reopening After Snow Clearance

The LG further clarified that some high-altitude destinations will reopen once weather conditions improve:

  • Gurez

  • Athwatoo

  • Bangus

  • Ramkund

The decision is being seen as a major step toward reviving tourism, restoring public confidence, and signaling a gradual return to normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir after last year’s tragic attack.
