Srinagar, February 11, 2026 : Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma on Wednesday accused the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly of showing bias in favour of the ruling dispensation, alleging that the proceedings of the House were being conducted at the behest of the treasury benches.
Terming the situation as “unfortunate” for a democratic institution, Sharma’s remarks came in response to comments made earlier by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during an Assembly session.
Speaking to reporters, the LoP said the language used by the Chief Minister had made even members present in the House uncomfortable. He questioned whether Abdullah felt any sense of responsibility for his remarks and said the Chief Minister should have personally come forward to clarify and justify his statements.
“They have no answer,” Sharma said, adding that he had raised the issue earlier and was reiterating it to ensure accountability.
The BJP leader also launched a sharp attack on the National Conference, alleging a pattern of arrogance within its leadership. He claimed that being born into the family of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah appeared to instil a sense of entitlement and accused the party of having a history of internal discord.
Sharma further alleged that the Chief Minister had shown no remorse over his remarks and questioned what could be expected from a House and a Speaker who, according to him, were tolerating such conduct.
