Kishtwar, September 20, 2025 : Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma visited Margi village in the Warwan area, severely affected by recent flash floods and incessant rains. The natural calamity washed away houses, damaged roads, and cut off the population from the rest of the district. Many families are now homeless, facing acute shortages of food, drinking water, medicines, and basic amenities.
Sharma, accompanied by local administration officials and civil society members, reached the remote village despite challenging terrain. He met affected families, listened to their grievances, and assessed the scale of devastation firsthand.
Expressing concern over the massive damage, Sharma assured villagers that he would raise the matter at the highest levels and press for immediate relief and rehabilitation. He emphasized that temporary shelters, emergency food, medicines, and restoration of road links must be treated as top priorities.
He called upon the Union Territory administration and disaster management authorities to deploy emergency teams, including medical staff and engineers, urgently. He also appealed to NGOs and civil society to assist the affected population.
Sharma stressed the importance of a long-term plan to strengthen infrastructure and disaster preparedness in remote areas like Warwan, which remain highly vulnerable during extreme weather events.
