New Delhi, March 7, 2026 : A man accused of murdering his 10-year-old daughter in Jammu nearly a decade ago was arrested from southeast Delhi, police officials said on Saturday.
The accused, Ramesh Kumar, a native of Chhatarpur district, was wanted in connection with a 2016 murder case registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station in Jammu, officials said.
According to police, Kumar had been working as a construction labourer in Jammu at the time of the incident. He allegedly attacked his daughter with a stick, suspecting that she was not his biological child. The young girl sustained serious head injuries and later succumbed to them during treatment.
After committing the crime, the accused fled from Jammu and remained absconding for several years, evading arrest. During this period, he reportedly began living in Delhi under a false identity, using the name “Rajveer.”
The arrest was made following a request from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, which had been trying to trace the accused in the decade-old case.
Acting on specific inputs about his presence in the Sanjay Colony area of Bhati Mines in southeast Delhi, the Delhi Police conducted a search operation and apprehended him.
Following his detention, Kumar was handed over to the investigating officer from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, who formally arrested him in connection with the case.
Police officials said further legal proceedings in the case are underway.
