JAMMU, April 10, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday said the Union Territory is at a “very critical juncture” and called for a united mass movement to tackle the growing drug menace among youth.
100-Day Intensive Campaign from April 11
The LG announced that a 100-day intensive campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan will be launched from April 11, targeting drug abuse through a multi-pronged strategy.
The campaign will span from Panchayat to UT level, involving:
- Legal and enforcement कार्रवाई
- Crackdown on drug trafficking networks
- Rehabilitation of victims
- Public awareness initiatives
“Conspiracy to Destroy Youth”
Addressing people through a video message, Sinha warned of a larger conspiracy aimed at pushing youth into addiction.
“Jammu and Kashmir today stands at a very critical juncture. There is an attempt to destroy an entire generation through drugs,” he said.
Building on Existing Efforts
Referring to the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan launched in 2020 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the LG said anti-drug initiatives in J&K have already shown impact, especially through police and security force actions.
However, he stressed the need for a broader societal response to intensify the fight.
Mega Launch & Public Participation
A large gathering is scheduled at M A Stadium on April 11, where:
- Citizens will take a pledge against drug abuse
- A padayatra will be flagged off
- The campaign will expand across the entire UT
The LG said he will personally participate in padyatras across districts to mobilize support.
Call for Jan Andolan
Emphasizing collective responsibility, Sinha said:
“This campaign does not belong to any one individual—it concerns the future of our youth.”
He urged civil society, political leaders, academicians, and citizens to actively participate and transform the initiative into a people’s movement.
Conclusion
With a comprehensive strategy involving all departments, police, and security agencies, the administration aims to deliver a decisive blow to the drug ecosystem and secure a drug-free future for Jammu and Kashmir.
