Jammu, March 9, 2026 : Authorities issued 445 traffic violation notices and seized 60 vehicles for serious offences during a special enforcement drive conducted across the Jammu division to strengthen road safety, officials said on Monday.
According to an official, 64 driving licences and 20 registration certificates have also been recommended for suspension for grave violations that adversely affect road safety. The drive resulted in the recovery of ₹18.18 lakh in penalties.
The special enforcement operation was carried out by the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) on the directions of Vishesh Paul Mahajan, Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir.
The drive was conducted across several districts including Jammu, Udhampur, Samba, Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch, Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda.
Officials said 24 checkpoints were established at strategic locations, where 2,494 vehicles were inspected during the operation.
During the drive, authorities issued 445 challans under the Motor Vehicles Act and seized 60 vehicles involved in serious violations.
The district-wise enforcement revealed a range of violations including overloading, driving without valid documents, permit violations, overspeeding and dangerous driving, officials added.
Authorities said such enforcement drives will continue to ensure road safety and strict compliance with traffic regulations across the region.
