Srinagar, July 13, 2025: The Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU), a collective of Islamic organisations in Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday called for legal action and a social boycott of Shia leader and former minister Imran Raza Ansari over his alleged “provocative” remarks.
In a strongly worded statement, the MMU — which comprises religious scholars and leaders from both Sunni and Shia sects — expressed “deep anguish and strong condemnation” over Ansari’s reported comments.
“Imran Ansari has publicly made statements that disrespect the revered companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Such actions are deeply offensive, harmful to Islamic unity, and violate the principles of mutual respect and religious ethics,” the MMU said.
The organisation added that such remarks “threaten sectarian harmony” and urged the authorities to initiate legal proceedings. It further appealed to the community to refrain from engaging with Ansari until the matter is addressed.
The MMU emphasised the need to uphold inter-sect unity and maintain communal peace, warning that provocative rhetoric would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
