Muktsar, October 14, 2025 : In a proud moment for Punjab and the Sikh community worldwide, Rajbeer Kaur Brar (35) from Thandewala village near Muktsar has made history by becoming the first turbaned woman constable to join the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Saskatchewan, Canada.
An MSc (IT) graduate from Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Chandigarh, Rajbeer moved to Canada after her marriage in 2016. From working at a Walmart store to serving briefly in the Canadian Reserve Army, her journey has been one of perseverance and grit.
After clearing the RCMP selection process last year, Rajbeer completed her training and is now posted at Milestone, Saskatchewan.
Her husband, Satvir Singh, a mechanical engineer from Faridkot district, works as a truck driver in Canada.
“When the RCMP officials handed over her uniform, they told her she was the first turbaned woman in the force. We later confirmed it online. She has truly kept the spirit and ethos of Sikhism alive abroad,” said her proud brother Beant Singh Khalsa, who is a dairy farmer in Punjab.
Notably, in 1991, Baltej Singh Dhillon became the first RCMP officer to wear a turban — a landmark that paved the way for Sikh representation in Canadian law enforcement. Now a senator, Dhillon remains an enduring inspiration for many, including Rajbeer.
