Jammu, February 4, 2026 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday clarified that there is no proposal under consideration to provide monthly financial assistance to young advocates with over three years of legal practice.
The clarification came from the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in response to Assembly Question No. 922, raised by MLA Shamim Firdous. Replying to the query on whether the government plans to extend financial support to young lawyers and the expected timeline, the Minister In-Charge stated unequivocally that no such scheme is currently being examined.
The government further explained that while advocates do receive certain forms of institutional support, introducing regular financial assistance for a specific professional group could lead to similar demands from other licensed professionals and technocrats who also do not receive such benefits.
Officials cautioned that accommodating such demands would place a significant financial burden on the exchequer and could have serious fiscal implications for the government.
The statement effectively rules out any immediate relief in the form of monthly assistance for young advocates in the Union Territory.
