AHMEDABAD, July 31, 2025 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, currently on a two-day visit to Gujarat to revive tourism in the Union Territory, praised Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Riverfront after a morning jog, calling it “one of the nicest places” he has ever run.
Taking to social media, the CM shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter):
“While in #Ahmedabad for a tourism event I took advantage of being here to get my morning run at the famed Sabarmati River Front promenade. It’s one of the nicest places I’ve been able to run & it was a pleasure to get to share it with so many other walkers/runners. I even managed to run past the amazing Atal Foot Bridge.”
The casual tweet added a lighter touch to an otherwise serious mission — restoring tourist confidence in Jammu and Kashmir after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, including several from Gujarat.
CM Abdullah is in Ahmedabad to engage with local tour operators and reconnect with Gujarat — a key domestic travel market that has historically contributed significantly to Kashmir’s tourism sector.
“Gujarat, along with Maharashtra and West Bengal, has always played a major role in Kashmir’s tourism economy,” Abdullah stated, expressing optimism that Gujarati tourists would soon return in large numbers.
While focused on tourism revival, the visit also carried a subtle political tone, reflecting Abdullah’s broader efforts to reinforce Jammu and Kashmir’s image as a safe, peaceful, and vibrant destination.
