Jammu, July 17, 2025: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended his congratulations to Kavinder Gupta on his appointment as the new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, while also emphasizing the importance of maintaining sensitivity towards the distinct sentiments of both Leh and Kargil regions.
“My best wishes to Kavinder Gupta on being appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. But this responsibility is not easy. Working in high-altitude areas is challenging,” Abdullah told reporters during his visit to Samba district.
Drawing from Gupta’s previous roles as Assembly Speaker and Deputy Chief Minister in J&K, Abdullah noted that similar political balance and responsiveness will now be required in Ladakh.
“Just like in Jammu and Kashmir, he will have to work with both sides—Leh and Kargil—and move forward together. If he does that, he will succeed,” Abdullah added.
During his visit, the Chief Minister also toured AIIMS Vijaypur, where he reviewed the medical facilities and officially launched the Disaster Management Manual.
He expressed satisfaction with the hospital infrastructure, stating,
“The facilities at AIIMS Vijaypur are quite good. Though the highway is still underdeveloped, I believe this institute will soon rank among the best AIIMS facilities in the country.”
Abdullah further noted that patients from neighbouring states have also begun seeking treatment at the institute, adding that the influx will increase once the expressway project is completed.
