Srinagar, July 22, 2025 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday extended wishes for the good health of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who resigned on Monday, and expressed hope that his successor would uphold the dignity and responsibilities of the office.
“I pray for Mr. Dhankhar’s well-being and long life. This is perhaps the first time a Vice President has resigned in this manner. It seems his health did not permit him to continue. I hope the next Vice President will do justice to the post in the true sense,” Abdullah said while speaking to reporters in Safapora, Ganderbal.
The Chief Minister was in Safapora to offer condolences to the family of a murder and assault victim, assuring that the government will extend full support.
“The police have taken swift action, a case has been registered, and we are committed to ensuring justice for the family. Their elder son has a spinal injury, and the government will process support as requested,” he said.
Reacting to the Congress party’s recent protest demanding restoration of J&K’s statehood, Abdullah said the National Conference was not consulted.
“We learned about the protest through newspapers. If they wanted our support, they should have spoken to us. We’ve been at the forefront of this demand—resolutions were passed in the cabinet and Assembly. It’s a bit ironic they remembered to protest now,” he remarked wryly.
He added that NC members would have gladly participated if approached, and reiterated his party’s long-standing commitment to the statehood demand.
