JAMMU, February 23, 2026 : Two balloons carrying foreign currency notes—a Pakistani ₹5,000 note and a US dollar—were recovered on Monday from a forward village in the Akhnoor sector near Jammu, officials said.
The white and red, aeroplane-shaped balloons were found stuck to a tree in Gunara village of the Khour border belt. Officials said the balloons also carried a Pakistani mobile number and a QR code, and appeared to have drifted across the International Border from the Pakistan side.
While balloons crossing over from Pakistan are a routine occurrence in border areas, officials noted that this is the first instance of foreign currency notes being found attached to such balloons.
On Sunday, personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) seized 16 red balloons that had crossed over from Pakistan and landed in agricultural fields in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district.
In another security-related incident the same evening, a rusted grenade was recovered from the Dharyalla forest area in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district, officials added.
Investigations are underway to ascertain the origin and intent behind these incidents.
