Srinagar, January 26, 2026 : Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary on Monday said that Pakistan is continuously trying to create trouble in Jammu and Kashmir, but asserted that the security forces will not allow its malicious designs to succeed.
Addressing the Republic Day function at Bakshi Stadium, Choudhary said Jammu and Kashmir had faced difficult times during Operation Sindoor, but the Union Territory has successfully recovered and is once again ready to welcome tourists.
“Today, I pay heartfelt tributes to the victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Tourists from different parts of the country had come here. Pakistan is deliberately trying to damage our tourism sector by spreading terror, but our security forces stand strong and vigilant,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
He praised the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies for their effective role in countering terrorism, while stressing that challenges still remain.
“Our security forces have done commendable work in fighting terrorism. However, their responsibility does not end there. Drug abuse is another serious challenge, and the police must continue efforts to protect our youth from this menace,” he said.
Highlighting the achievements of the elected government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Choudhary outlined various developmental and welfare initiatives undertaken over the past 15 months, reiterating the government’s commitment to address public issues.
He acknowledged certain constraints and expressed hope that the Centre would extend adequate financial support to meet the development requirements of Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier in the day, the Deputy Chief Minister paid tributes to martyrs at the Balidhan Stambh at Pratap Park in the Lal Chowk area.
Speaking to reporters, Choudhary expressed optimism about the revival of tourism, calling it the backbone of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy, and hoped the coming year would be positive for the sector.
On the issue of restoration of statehood, he said it was a solemn promise made by the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister before Parliament and the Supreme Court, and reiterated confidence that Jammu and Kashmir will soon regain statehood.
