Jammu, July 31, 2025 : Authorities have constituted a joint committee to examine bird-related hazards around Jammu Airport, with the panel tasked to submit its findings and recommendations within a week, an official confirmed on Thursday.
The committee was formed by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, and will be headed by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Jammu, Sher Singh. Members include representatives from the Jammu Development Authority (JDA), Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Cantonment Board Jammu, Airport Authority of India, and the Air Force Station Jammu.
The panel has been directed to conduct field visits around the airport and propose measures to reduce bird strike risks, a recurring safety concern in aviation.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by the Divisional Commissioner, where officials discussed the origin of bird hazards from areas surrounding the airport — especially due to garbage accumulation and open waste dumping.
To address this, Kumar instructed the JMC, JDA, and CEO of the Cantonment Board to enforce robust garbage disposal systems and launch awareness campaigns to prevent waste dumping near the airport zone.
The final report is expected to include actionable steps to ensure safer flight operations and minimize wildlife-related disruptions at the airport.
