Jammu, July 25, 2025: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested Chuni Lal, Patwari of Patwar Halqa Dansal, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000.
According to an official statement, the accused had initially demanded ₹1,00,000 from a complainant for providing a demarcation report. After negotiation, he agreed to accept ₹75,000, demanding ₹25,000 as the first installment. The complainant, unwilling to pay a bribe, approached the ACB and managed to arrange ₹20,000 as bait.
Following a discreet verification of the complaint, ACB registered FIR No. 15/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. A trap was laid, and Chuni Lal was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses.
The ACB team arrested him on the spot and recovered the bribe money. Subsequent searches were conducted at his office and in-laws’ residence in the presence of magistrates and witnesses. Further investigation is underway.
