Srinagar, October 16, 2025 : The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has indicated that it may support the National Conference (NC) in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, provided the NC backs PDP MLAs’ private member bills in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said NC chief Farooq Abdullah sought the party’s support for his candidates. She responded that PDP would consider backing the NC if their Land Bill and Regularisation of Daily Wagers Bill are supported and passed.
Criticising the completion of one year of the NC government, Mehbooba accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of “normalising abnormal practices” from the post-2019 Centre’s rule, including arrests, raids, and surveillance. She also highlighted that NC’s manifesto promises, like providing legal aid to prisoners in outside jails, remain unfulfilled.
Mehbooba further claimed that Omar’s emphasis on statehood has complicated the political discourse, while basic welfare measures like free gas, water, and electricity, expanding widow funds, or issuing reservation reports have not been addressed. She cited Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal as a model for effective governance under a Union Territory setup despite constraints.
