SRINAGAR, September 16, 2025 : PDP leader Iltija Mufti on Tuesday called on Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and apprised him of the crisis facing the UT’s apple industry due to the prolonged closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway following heavy rains and flash floods.
Fruit-laden trucks have been stranded for days, raising fears of huge losses for growers.
A day earlier, apple growers and traders protested against the highway closure and government inaction.
Iltija Mufti tweeted:
“Called on Hon’ble L-G Manoj Sinha ji to apprise him of the severe crisis crippling Jammu and Kashmir’s apple industry owing to the shutdown of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.”
LG Manoj Sinha assured her that efforts to restore smooth movement of trucks would be expedited to prevent further losses.
