Jammu, February 7, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president and MLA Tariq Hamid Karra on Saturday flagged serious gaps in the implementation of the previous budget, saying delays in fund utilisation had caused widespread public resentment.
Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly complex in Jammu, Karra said that while the earlier budget carried significant announcements, execution remained weak, leading to frustration among people.
“When the last budget was presented, there were serious shortcomings in its implementation and execution. People were extremely upset as it took a long time for funds to be allotted,” he said.
Expressing hope for improvement, Karra said the current budget must ensure timely release and effective utilisation of funds so that benefits reach people on the ground.
“Now, we expect clear improvement in implementation and execution,” he added.
Clarifying budgetary allocations, Karra referred to the SASKI component, stating that the amount involved was around ₹1,450 crore.
“As far as my understanding goes, SASKI is not a grant-in-aid. The government receives approximately ₹1,450 crore under this head three times,” he said.
He stressed that greater transparency, accountability and efficiency in spending were crucial to restore public confidence and ensure that budgetary provisions translate into real outcomes.
