Doda, Sep 11, 2025 : Prohibitory orders remained in force for the second day in Doda district amid escalating protests against the detention of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Clashes between protesters and security forces spread to Bhaderwah, resulting in injuries to both civilians and police personnel, including two officers. Police used lathicharge and tear gas to disperse defiant crowds, while 70 people—including five women—were detained.
Strong security measures, including concertina wires and heavy deployment of forces, were imposed around Doda town to prevent further unrest. Internet services remain suspended, fueling allegations of a clampdown to silence dissent.
Malik’s lawyer Appu Singh stated that a legal team has been assembled to challenge the PSA, which is often reserved for terrorists, calling the decision “an act of personal vendetta.”
All business establishments and schools remain closed, and residents are ordered to stay indoors as tensions continue to simmer in the region.
