Jammu, February 18, 2026 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma on Wednesday described the reopening of tourist destinations in Jammu and Kashmir as a victory for the security forces, while expressing gratitude to Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory.
Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly Complex, Sharma said he was “extremely thankful to LG Manoj Sinha sahab” for taking the decision to reopen tourist spots that were shut after the Pahalgam terror attack. He termed the move a significant step towards restoring normalcy and reviving tourism in the region.
The LoP credited the unwavering efforts of security forces for creating a safe environment despite persistent challenges.
“Obviously there are challenges, but our security forces have overcome them. We salute their dedication, courage, and commitment in safeguarding lives and maintaining peace,” Sharma said.
Reacting to statements made by Omar Abdullah and a Union Minister regarding the restoration of statehood, Sharma clarified that the process of statehood is underway. However, he added that he was not aware whether the matter involved consultations with Omar Abdullah or if any formal communication had been shared with him regarding the timeline or process.
Sharma reiterated that decisions of such magnitude are taken at the appropriate constitutional level and in the interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
