New Delhi, Jul 14, 2025 : India’s retail inflation eased to a six-year low of 2.1% in June, driven by a sharp decline in food prices, according to data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO).
The Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation was 2.82% in May and 5.08% in June 2024. The last time inflation was this low was in January 2019, when it touched 1.97%.
“There is a decline of 72 basis points in headline inflation compared to May 2025,” the NSO stated, citing a favourable base effect and falling prices of vegetables, pulses, meat, fish, cereals, milk, sugar, and spices as key factors.
This sharp moderation in inflation may strengthen expectations of a rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India in the coming months.
