Srinagar, November 20, 2025 : People’s Conference president Sajad Lone on Thursday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the safety and dignity of Kashmiris living outside the Union Territory, expressing deep concern over recurring reports of harassment.
In a strongly worded statement, Lone said,
“Please ensure that any citizen of India, including Kashmiris, is not harassed in their own country.”
He noted that incidents of intimidation and stereotyping of Kashmiris have increased over the last decade.
“Stereotyping of a Kashmiri, unfortunately, is a favourite hobby across the country. It is not a new trend — it has just become more chronic in the last 10 years,” he said.
Highlighting the anxiety among families back home, Lone pointed out that lakhs of Kashmiris are currently residing in various states for business, education, employment, and professional work, and their families fear for their safety after recurring incidents of harassment.
Acknowledging the presence of extremist elements everywhere, he stressed that such individuals do not represent Kashmiri society.
“Yes, there are radical lunatics in every society. But they are an aberration,” he stated.
In a related development, PDP MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz contacted Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla regarding a recent incident involving harassment of Kashmiri vendors.
According to a statement by the PDP on X, the Governor assured that necessary action will be taken.
