JAMMU, July 11, 2025 – Security forces have launched an intensified crackdown across key districts of Jammu region to neutralize an estimated 40 to 50 terrorists currently operating south of the Pir Panjal range, official sources revealed on Friday.
The situation along the borders and hinterland remains under control, with forces maintaining a high alert and dominating the higher reaches through sustained operations. “The terrorists are on the run. We’re acting on specific intelligence inputs, and multiple counter-insurgency operations are underway,” sources said.
According to intelligence assessments, nearly 80% of the active militants are Pakistani nationals, working in small groups across Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar, Doda, Basantgarh, and Udhampur. Forces have tightened surveillance in these regions, with night operations, anti-drone measures, and additional deployments forming part of a revised anti-terror grid.
“Routes previously used for infiltration into Kashmir have been sealed. Our troops have plugged gaps and are dominating the terrain, especially in high-altitude belts,” a senior official stated, adding that night vision devices and advanced equipment are being used to curb terrorist movement after dark.
The crackdown comes amid continued reports of cross-border staging of militants by Pakistan, though sources clarified there is no credible evidence yet of Pakistani regulars joining terrorist ranks.
A recent encounter in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar highlighted the heightened pressure on militants, with a group caught off-guard by Army personnel occupying a dominant position. The terrorists responded by lobbing grenades, indicating increased discomfort in operating within tightly monitored zones.
“Our strategy is working. The noose is tightening. These terrorists are running out of time, space, and support,” the official said.
Over the past three years, dozens of encounters and attacks in Jammu’s hilly districts have claimed lives on both sides. However, the forces assert that the tide is turning with ground intelligence and tactical dominance reshaping the security landscape.
