Baramulla, January 20, 2026 : Security forces on Tuesday averted a major tragedy with the timely detection of an improvised explosive device (IED) on the Srinagar–Baramulla highway, officials said.
The IED, suspected to have been planted by terrorists, was found along the roadside at Takiya Tapper in the Pattani area of Baramulla district during routine patrolling by security forces.
Officials said the device was detected in time by a patrol party, following which a bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot to safely neutralise the explosive.
The recovery comes less than a week ahead of Republic Day celebrations, prompting heightened alertness. Security has been further strengthened across the Kashmir Valley amid apprehensions of terrorists attempting to carry out subversive activities.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
