Jammu, February 17, 2026 : In the wake of a serious security breach at a juvenile home in Jammu’s R S Pura sector, six police personnel, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector, have been placed under suspension for alleged dereliction of duty after three inmates — a local gangster and two Pakistani nationals — escaped following an attack on on-duty cops.
The escape occurred around 5:15 pm on Monday, when Karajeet Singh alias Gugga, a resident of Dablehar, along with Pakistani nationals Mohammad Suna-ullah and Ahsan Anwar, allegedly assaulted police personnel and fled the facility. Two policemen sustained injuries in the incident.
Officials said the suspensions are part of a departmental inquiry to ascertain how security was compromised, identify lapses by deployed personnel and probe possible conspiracy angles, including how a country-made pistol was procured inside the juvenile home.
Manhunt & Legal Action
Special police teams have launched an intensified manhunt, conducting raids at dozens of locations to track down the escapees.
An FIR has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
-
Section 109 (attempt to murder)
-
Section 132 (assault on public servant)
-
Section 262 (escaping from lawful custody)
-
Section 307 (theft with preparation to cause harm)
-
Section 111 (organised crime)
Additionally, sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act have been invoked.
Senior Officers Visit Site
Following the incident, Nalin Prabhat, Director General of Police, and Bhim Sen Tuti, Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, rushed to the spot along with other senior officers to review the situation.
A purported video showing the gangster firing a few rounds inside the juvenile home went viral on social media, triggering public concern over custodial security.
Former DGP Raises Questions
Former DGP S P Vaid questioned how the inmates managed to obtain a firearm and escape, noting that all three had already ceased to be juveniles.
“I am confident police teams will apprehend them before they attempt anything further,” he said in a post on X.
Background
