Jammu, Sep 11, 2025 : One-way traffic was permitted today on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway due to slippery road conditions in the Tharad section of Udhampur district.
Reopened after nine days of closure, the highway remains partially functional amid challenging conditions. Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) are allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) toward Srinagar on a trial basis, subject to fair weather. However, the slippery surface caused multiple traffic jams, requiring JCBs and loaders to assist stranded vehicles.
The 270-km highway, the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir to the rest of India, had been blocked for a total of 14 days since August 26 due to heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides. Heavy vehicles are still barred until the road bed dries.
Alternative routes remain operational via Mughal Road, Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road, and Sinthan Pass.
