Rajouri/Jammu, July 6, 2025: An Army soldier posted in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir died of a bullet injury from his own service rifle, officials said on Sunday.
The incident occurred late Saturday night at the headquarters of the 54 Rashtriya Rifles in Solki village, about 40 km from Rajouri town. The soldier was on sentry duty when his colleagues heard a gunshot and rushed to his post, where they found him dead on the spot.
It remains unclear whether the death resulted from suicide or an accidental discharge. Police have launched inquest proceedings to determine the exact cause of death, officials added.
