Srinagar, October 28, 2025 : Heated exchanges were witnessed in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Tuesday after BJP MLA Shakti Parihar alleged regional bias in the recent transfers within the Education Department, claiming that “Kashmir got preference while Jammu was ignored.”
The accusation triggered noisy scenes between the treasury and opposition benches.
Education Minister Sakina Ittoo dismissed the allegations, saying the BJP was “habitual of crying discrimination.”
“There is no bias. Recruitment data itself proves this — 350 appointments were made in Kashmir, while 860 were made in Jammu,” she said.
Ittoo clarified that Departmental Promotion Committees (DPCs) were underway and that transfer orders from Poonch and Rajouri had been kept in abeyance due to objections.
She further pointed out that the previous government had frozen 1,500 posts, pushing the department toward dysfunction.
“I am thankful to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for de-freezing 50% of those posts,” she added.
The ruckus subsided after the minister’s clarification, and the House resumed normal business.
