Srinagar, March 23, 2026 : In a significant ruling reinforcing accountability in public service, the Special Anti-Corruption Court in Srinagar on Monday convicted former Tehsildar Chadoora, Mohd Akram Khan, in a 2010 bribery case.
The court, presided over by Special Judge Dr Tasleem Arief Ganie, sentenced the accused to one year of simple imprisonment along with a fine of ₹20,000.
According to officials, the case was registered under FIR No. 20 of 2010 at the then Vigilance Organisation Kashmir, now the Anti-Corruption Bureau. The accused was found guilty under provisions of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 161 of the RPC for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from a complainant in exchange for settling a property dispute in his favour.
The complaint was filed on May 13, 2010, following which a trap was laid by the vigilance authorities. The accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe, leading to his arrest.
After a detailed investigation, the charge sheet was filed on October 22, 2010, and the case proceeded through judicial processes before culminating in the conviction on March 23, 2026.
Officials termed the verdict a milestone in the ongoing fight against corruption, highlighting the sustained efforts of the Anti-Corruption Bureau to ensure transparency, integrity, and accountability in governance.
