Hubballi, February 28, 2026 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah watched from the stands at the KSCA Stadium as the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team scripted history by clinching their maiden Ranji Trophy title.
J&K sealed the championship on the basis of a commanding first-innings lead after the final against Karnataka cricket team ended in a draw.
“They’ve done it. Well done J&K,” Abdullah posted on X, sharing a video of players celebrating with the flag after the landmark triumph.
A Defining Moment for J&K Cricket
Calling it a watershed moment for cricket in the Union Territory, Abdullah said he travelled to Hubballi to personally cheer the team.
“There hasn’t been a single day in this five-day final when the team has not dominated the opposition,” he remarked.
He was accompanied by Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Tanvir Sadiq, and the Administrator of the J&K Cricket Association.
Dominance Sealed on Final Day
After taking a massive 291-run first-innings lead, J&K tightened their grip further as Qamran Iqbal (160*) and Sahil Lotra (101*) stitched an unbeaten 197-run stand.
With J&K at 342/4 and an overall lead of 633 runs, the captains agreed to shake hands — sealing a historic chapter in the region’s cricketing journey.
