KATHUA, August 3, 2025 : Two people were killed and three others critically injured when an SUV skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Kainta Morh on the Kathua-Basohli road early Sunday, police said.
The victims were part of a community kitchen (langar) service for the Amarnath Yatra from Punjab. They were headed to the Chanderkote campsite along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway when the accident occurred around 12:40 am.
Local residents quickly launched a rescue effort, and all five occupants were rushed to Government Medical College Hospital, Kathua. Mohinder Paul (60) and Pawan Madhan (50) were declared dead on arrival. The injured—Anil Monga, Sunny Arora, and Sudhir—remain under treatment.
