Led by Kunzes Dolma Jawo, president of the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) women wing, Nasreen Maryam, president of the women wing of Anjuman Immamia, Aisha Malo, president of Anjuman-e-Moin-ul-Islam, and Racheal, executive member of women wing of the Christian Association, called on the chairman of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, chairman Tashi Gyalson.
During the meeting, the women leaders expressed their gratitude to Gyalson for his support in ensuring 33 per cent reservation for women in the council. The delegation extended thanks to CEC for fulfilling his commitment made earlier on International Women’s Day (March 8th), and for taking substantial steps towards empowering women in the region.
The delegation also expressed their appreciation to the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, conveying their gratitude for their support and endorsement of 33 per cent reservation for women.
The women representatives urged Gyalson to expedite the implementation of this reservation, highlighting the need for swift action to bring these changes into effect for the betterment of women in Ladakh.
They reiterated the importance of this historic decision, which promises to strengthen the role of women in the political and social fabric of Ladakh.
The delegation emphasised that this reservation was a significant step towards greater gender equality, ensuring that women’s voices are represented in decision making processes at the local governance level.
