Kathua, September 30, 2026 : Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Director General Praveer Ranjan visited the CISF camp in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday to assess the situation following a fratricidal firing incident in which four CISF personnel, including an Assistant Commandant, were killed.

The DG’s visit was aimed at conducting an on-ground assessment and gathering first-hand information about the circumstances surrounding the incident. Senior officers from the CISF and Jammu and Kashmir Police were also present during the visit.

Kathua Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma, along with senior CISF and J&K Police officers, reached the camp and reviewed the situation. The officers discussed the sequence of events that preceded and followed the firing and assessed the measures taken after the incident.

According to officials, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening at the Sewa-III Hydroelectric Power Project in Mashka village, Basohli, near the Himachal Pradesh border. Four CISF personnel, including an Assistant Commandant and a Sub-Inspector, were killed after a colleague allegedly opened fire following an altercation.

The accused CISF personnel was subsequently overpowered and arrested.

During his visit, DG Praveer Ranjan interacted with senior officers and CISF personnel at the camp and sought detailed information regarding the circumstances before, during and after the firing. He also reviewed the security situation and the steps taken by the force in the aftermath of the incident.

Later, accompanied by senior police and CISF officers, the DG visited the NHPC hospital in the adjoining Chamba area of Himachal Pradesh, where the bodies of the deceased personnel had been kept.

The CISF has already ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident. The inquiry is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the firing and the sequence of events that led to the deaths of the four personnel.
