Srinagar, August 23, 2025 : Hours after the J&K government ordered the takeover of 215 schools linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT), Education Minister Sakina Itoo clarified that the original proposal never intended a takeover.
She said her approved draft had suggested that cluster principals should oversee the schools, not deputy commissioners as directed in the order issued by the School Education Department Secretary, who reports to the LG.
In a video message, Itoo accused “rumour-mongers” of misrepresenting the move, stressing that the step was only meant to safeguard the future of 51,000 students enrolled in these institutions.
