Jammu, September 2, 2025 : The Jammu Division of Indian Railways has resumed partial train services after days of suspension caused by incessant rains, flash floods, and landslides that damaged key railway infrastructure across the region.
Officials confirmed that the New Delhi–Katra (12445) and Katra–New Delhi (12446) trains were restored on Monday, while the Kolkata–Jammu (13151) and Jammu–Kolkata (13152) services resumed on Tuesday. However, several other routes remain suspended as restoration efforts continue.
To ease passenger movement and support workers engaged in repair work, a special shuttle service between Jammu and Katra has also been launched. The service will run until September 15, providing vital connectivity for both stranded passengers and labourers.
A senior Railways official praised the staff for their resilience, saying, “What began as a major disruption has turned into a story of coordinated action, selfless service, and grit. The sheer scale of the damage would have overwhelmed any system, but our teams rose to the challenge.”
Rail traffic had earlier come to a complete halt on the Jammu–Pathankot and Jammu–Katra routes, stranding thousands, including pilgrims to the Vaishno Devi shrine. Railway staff, along with the GRP and district administration, set up help desks at Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Pathankot to assist affected passengers round the clock.
Top officials, including the General Manager of Northern Railway and the Divisional Railway Manager of Jammu, remained physically present on the ground, monitoring operations and boosting staff morale.
