Srinagar, September 3, 2025 : Continuous rainfall across Kashmir has led to a sharp rise in water levels in rivers and streams, prompting authorities to shut the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and close all schools and colleges for the day.
Officials said the Jhelum and its tributaries remain below the danger mark, but water bodies in several parts of south and central Kashmir, including Srinagar, have swelled by nearly three feet since Tuesday’s downpour.
The heavy rains triggered landslides, shooting stones, and waterlogging at multiple stretches of NH-44, forcing the complete suspension of vehicular traffic.
“As a precautionary measure in view of the weather conditions, all educational institutions across Kashmir division shall remain closed today,” officials added.
