Srinagar, September 3, 2025 : Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education Sakeena Itoo, along with Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, visited the Irrigation and Flood Control Room in Rambagh on Wednesday to assess the prevailing flood situation and ongoing preparedness measures in the Union Territory.
Assessment of Water Levels and Monitoring Measures
During the visit, the Minister and Advisor reviewed current water levels, the monitoring systems in place, and ongoing efforts to safeguard vulnerable areas. A brief meeting was chaired by Minister Itoo at the flood control room, where she emphasized the need for real-time dissemination of information to the public and prompt action in case of any emergency.
She directed officers to issue timely alerts and advisories to facilitate safe and orderly evacuation of people from low-lying and flood-prone zones. The Minister also instructed that personnel and machinery near the Jhelum embankments be kept on high alert to prevent any emergencies in the event of a breach.
Coordination Across Departments
Both the Minister and Advisor stressed the importance of close coordination among all line departments, urging round-the-clock vigilance and continuous public awareness campaigns. They highlighted that constant communication and awareness measures are critical to ensuring that residents remain informed, prepared, and safe during the ongoing inclement weather.

The Minister and Advisor assured the public that the government is fully committed to the safety and well-being of citizens, and appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with authorities, and follow official advisories.
Senior officers from the Flood & Irrigation Department, SDRF, and district administration briefed the Minister and Advisor on current water levels and the measures being undertaken to protect flood-prone areas across the Valley.
