Jammu, September 4, 2025 : The Jammu-Katra shuttle train service was suspended for the second consecutive day on Thursday due to landslides and flooding, officials said.
Heavy rainfall triggered landslides that blocked the portal of Tunnel No. 16 on the Jammu-Udhampur rail section between Ramnagar and Manwal, prompting authorities to halt the shuttle service.
“Due to heavy rainfall and landslides, railways have decided to cancel the shuttle train service between Jammu and Katra today,” said Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railways.
The shuttle service, which began on September 1 with four trains to aid stranded passengers and locals, was scheduled to run until September 15. Rail traffic in the Jammu division has been disrupted for nine days due to misalignment and breaches at multiple locations along the Pathankot-Jammu section following flash floods on August 26.
Despite the disruptions, special trains have been operating over the past four days to transport stranded passengers from Jammu. So far, 5,784 passengers have been ferried in seven special trains.
The region has seen severe disruption to both rail and road transport since August 26, with scores of pilgrims and locals stranded, and a landslide near the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra claiming 34 lives.
